New Year 2007

Well, thankfully Christmas is out of the way
and our local friendly supermarket is busy stocking up on mince pies
and turkeys ready for the seasonal rush…
This got me thinking about how much stick (sometimes
a bit cruel, but always in the right spirit) the place has received at our quiz.
It started some years ago when a team called themselves
‘Five go mad in the Co-op looking for a fresh lettuce’.
It seemed to strike a chord with most local quizzers, and ever
since has been a rich vein of questions and amusement.

Some of my favourites…..

True or False - The Postman Pat machine won the
employee of the month award recently ? (False)

Where in the Co-op can you find a large fadge ? (this was open
to many interpretations) Answer - Bread counter

What phrase are you most likely to hear over the tannoy when
shopping in the store? Answer - "Madge-ment to kiosk"
- this of course done with relevant sound effects….

Having said that I love the place, and I recommend that if
you’re feeling a bit low then a trip there is a must.- support
your local shops. They play some great music (honest), there’s
normally some weirdo wandering around (mostly customers)
and have great wine deals on offer.

Some rules or tips to help your shopping experience run smoothly…..

1. NEVER be in a hurry
2. If there is a 2 for 1 deal, just take ONE so you can leave
a spare one left over at the end.
3. If you have a trolley full of stuff and someone behind you is
waiting to pay for just a paper or pint of milk – F*** ‘em, you were there first.
4. ALWAYS try to pay by card (preferably Peruvian Credit Card
or something else they don’t take) even if it’s just for a loaf of bread

Follow these guidelines and your visit will be a pleasurable one…!

Anyway, back to the quiz. Last Monday was reasonably well
attended with 6 teams and the usual selection of poor-taste
team names…Papa's got a brand new body bag,….Travel by train,
National Express costs an arm and a leg…to name but two.
