FRIDAY 11 APRIL
Concert Room

Following on from last years Fade to Grey Festival, we're proud to host a warm up to this years 2 day extravaganza with a concert to raise awareness of green issues and kick start the festival in October. Top of the bill is Keith Donnelly who has stepped in at the last moment to boost our profile and launch us into the weekend. Keith is a regular face at festivals across the UK and brings his unique brand of humour, storytelling and songs to the Albany Club for the first time. We hope to get him back for the main event in October. Local supergroup Airbag are also generously offering their support as is the quirky and entertaining Norman Normal and the Wes Finch Band. There will also be a few stalls displaying green issues & fair trade products and a raffle with some great prizes. Please note that this is NOT a political event.
Tickets are £3.50 on the door.

The Big Easy are a 7-piece jazz/blues band. Comprising; The Preacher – lead vocals, sax, harp .. Martin Barter – keyboards, vocals .. Rod Boatswain – tenor sax, b’king vox .. Matt Yardley – trumpet .. Steve Hunt – guitars .. Steve Sage – bass, percussion .. Ed Franklin – drums, percussion.

The popular outfit covers the very best of ‘good time’ jazz, blues and rhythm & blues – or ‘Jooz’ as they call it. THE BIG EASY are a workmanlike band who deliver with energy and style a fine selection of classic numbers, right across the board, from the 1930s to the present day. From Louis Prima to Van Morrison, Ray Charles to Georgie Fame Indeed, they feel comfortable in declaring that they have ‘something for everyone’. Aint no sitting back when THE BIG EASY hit town .. prepare yourself for an evening of hot, sweaty ‘raucous & roll’ ! from the coolest, most cruelest band on the planet !

The Big Easy have gone from strength to strength since forming some 3 years ago and have gained admirers from all corners of the music scene mainly due to their appealing renditions of classic jazz and blues numbers and thoroughly entertaining and energetic live shows. Indeed, Big Bear Music were impressed enough to invite them to perform in the Birmingham International Jazz Festival 2006. Whilst also taking in the Coventry Jazz Festival and Town & Country Festival the same year and being featured on CWR radio, Heart fm and Touch fm along the way. Continuing the festival trail in 2007 the band were featured in the Liverpool Maritime Event at Wellington Dock, the Lichfield Real Ale and Jazz & Blues Festival and ArtsFest in Birmingham. 2008 sees The Big Easy take to the stage at the massive Americana Festival in July, while taking in the huge Godiva Festival the same month.

In August the band was invited to perform live on Wedding Breakfast TV (Sky channel 277) and received considerable feed-back from viewers. Red TV is now also lining up the band for a session in April 2008.

The Big Easy will be stealing time from a busy 2008 work schedule to record their 10 track CD entitled: ‘JooZ’ . The eagerly awaited CD will go on sale at gigs and will also be available to order from the band’s own web site which also features a 3 track ‘live’ demo, photos, gig listing and info etc. The band also have their own blog on MySpace

The Preacher has been described as: “possibly the best around in what he does” .. “a vocalist of great dexterity and power”. While the band’s undoubted skills as vocalists, musicians and arrangers (check out their version of ‘can’t buy me love’ or ‘mojo’ for example) is now taking them into the big league. It is therefore no surprise that The Big Easy is attracting much interest. Nowhere else will you see such a band - they are unique. With such a fast growing reputation they are quite simply becoming a band difficult to ignore.

Eager Beavers Since re-forming three years ago The Eager Beavers have again been pulling the crowds in. Young and not so young their audiences continue to ask for more wherever they play. Able to deliver a lively, energetic stage act their enthusiasm for authentic Rock ‘N Roll / Rockabilly soon becomes infectious, resulting in cries for more of the same.

Now seasoned musicians the lads are able to cater for all types of occasion. In the past three years they have provided the entertainment at business functions, private parties (engagements, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.), weekenders and bespoke Rock ‘N Roll / Rockabilly events. They have also often been featured in the local/music press and appeared on local radio stations. If fact the lads were recently asked for one of their CD’s by a French Radio Presenter who wanted to air their music on his programme. See their website and their MySpace page
